My interests
I have been painting all my life but in the last 10 years I have devoted more time to it. Walking in the more remote parts of Great Britain including North Wales, the Yorkshire Moors and the west coast of Scotland, provides the inspiration for my paintings.  I am currently studying for an MA in Fine Art contemporary practice at University College Falmouth., investigating the meaning of landscape and the process of painting.

My approach
I often begin a painting using a sketch or a photograph but, in most cases, the painting takes on a life of its own and the end result will be the combination of what originally caught my eye and the magical  process of pushing paint around. Increasingly I conduct research into the subject matter for contextual information.

My influences
I have been influenced by a number of artists over the years. The Bristol artist Alf Milsom encouraged me from an early age  He was a keen member of the Bristol Savages and in 1954 exhibited at the Royal West of England Academy (RWA). In 1989 I met the artist and writer John Blockley, and he encouraged me to devote more time to my painting. I became a member of the John Blockley Group which continues to meet regularly.  I am also a member of the Oxford Art Society.
Everyone in the John Blockley Group has taught me something important about painting and in particular  the leader of the group, Moira Huntly, has provided constant inspiration and support,  Other members of the group who continue to influence me are  Malcolm Edwards, Valerie Batchelor, Marie Sudwell,  Gillian Macdonald,  Jill Jeffrey, Judy Linnell,  Norma Stephenson, Averil Gilkes, Michael Morgan, Kevin and Ann-Marie Ryan and Martin Procter.
I am now in the process of studying contemporary artists and their approach to painting.
